Koroyd®

Koroyd

FINALLY, PROTECTION AS FORWARD-LOOKING AS YOU.

Koroyd® absorbs more energy on impact, offers better design flexibility and guarantees more efficient ventilation compared to materials traditionally used in helmet construction. The cylinders form a crumple zone and collapse evenly on impact. Thus, Koroyd® absorbs energy more efficiently and with less bulk than other protective materials on the market. Unlike traditional protective materials, Koroyd® cylinders absorb and convert more kinetic energy, while increasing airflow and reducing overall weight. Not all helmets are created equal.

Developed in the aerospace industry to absorb energy, cylindrical structures are one of the strongest forms found in nature; a form that could offer the most effective impact absorption for a given duration. Koroyd® uses cylinders to create a structure that behaves differently from traditional protective materials. Traditional materials act like a spring that stores energy and then releases it, while Koroyd® is a true energy absorber that converts kinetic energy by crushing. This results in better energy absorption in the event of an impact.

Engineered Absorption

High-tech absorption

In the event of an impact, Koroyd's welded tubes collapse instantly and evenly, absorbing maximum force in a controlled manner and thus reducing the amount of energy transferred to the head.

Engineered Protection

High tech protection

The air circulates evenly through the open cells, while the warm air in your head can easily escape, ensuring more efficient cooling under the most intense conditions.

Full Breathability

Total breathability

Characterized by tubes with the thinnest walls in the world, the Koroyd structure is composed of 95% air. This reduces weight and improves comfort without compromising safety.

MIPS®

MIPS

MIPS® IS A BRAIN PROTECTION SYSTEM - ENGINEERED TO ADD PROTECTION TO HELMETS.

The MIPS® Brain Protection System (BPS) is found inside the helmet, generally between the comfort padding and the EPS (a high-quality foam used to reduce energy).

For certain impacts, the MIPS® BPS can reduce harmful forces transmitted to the brain.

MIPS® stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System.

How it Works

HOW IT WORKS

The MIPS® Brain Protection System (BPS) is designed to add protection against rotational motion transferred to the brain. Rotational motion affects the brain and increase the risk for minor and severe brain injuries. When implemented in a helmet, the MIPS® BPS can reduce rotational motion by redirecting energies and forces otherwise transferred to the brain.

The core of the MIPS® BPS is a low friction layer that allows the head to move 10-15 mm relative the helmet in all directions, reducing rotational motion to the brain. The MIPS® BPS makes your helmet safer and adds protection.

Strain the Brain

STRAIN IN THE BRAIN

Rotational motion from an angled impact can cause strain in the brain that can lead to tearing in the brain tissue. The illustration is based on data gathered using sensors inside the crash test dummy heads. The dummy head, wearing a helmet, was subjected to an angled impact in a test rig at the MIPS® lab in Sweden.

The illustration shows the strain in the brain from an angled impact when the dummy head is wearing the same type of helmet – with and without the MIPS® BPS.

Reality Based Testing

REALITY BASED TESTING

Statistics show that many brain injuries occur due to angled impacts to the head. However, in standard helmet tests the helmet is dropped vertically onto a flat surface, and this does not create an angled impact. These results are helpful for measuring precise vertical impacts, but inferior for measuring a more realistic scenario of an angled impact.

The MIPS® test rig is developed for testing angled impacts to simulate a fall during a crash.

Fit

VaporFit

VAPORFIT™

Crafted with ease-of-use and superior comfort in mind, the VaporFit system relies on a tried-and-true rotary dial adjustment system integrated with a tuned elastic fit using engineered shapes. Each VaporFit system has a full 5cm of rotary adjustability. Additionally, the system can be moved up/down or forward/backward at the attachment points. The final result is increased comfort with a personalized, secure fit.

Lifestyle Fit System

LIFESTYLE FIT SYSTEM (LFS)

Built around the forgiving properties of elastic, the self-adjusting Lifestyle Fit System is designed to flex around the rider’s head, providing a dynamic fit that will move as you do. Additional lateral adjustability on the fit system arms allows it to accommodate a wide range of head sizes. With the Lifestyle Fit System, you’ll experience comfort and mobility from a fit system that you’ll never have to think about.

Ultimate Integraton

Goggle Integration

GOGGLE INTEGRATION

Thanks to a channel across the back of the helmet that aligns with the proper position of the goggle strap, Smith MTB goggles fit comfortably while riding.

A three-position visor is featured on most Smith MTB helmets that rotates high to allow for goggle storage.

Eyewear Integration

EYEWEAR INTEGRATION

Smith performance eyewear is easily stored on the front of the helmet.

Eyewear temples slide into channels on the front/side of the helmet holding your eyewear in place for those grueling climbs

AirEvac

Utlimate Integration

Precise Fit

Ultimate integration starts with the precise fit of the Smith goggle and helmet. Our helmets are designed to match the curvature of the goggle frame, eliminating "gaper gap" and allowing precise alignment between the helmet AirEvac and the goggle venting systems.

Maximum Airflow

Goggles fog when standard helmets trap warm, moist air in the goggle chamber. Smith's AirEvac ventilation systems generate maximum airflow and pull warm, fog-causing air out of the goggle. The warm air is allowed to exhaust out of the top of the goggle and begin its path through the helmet's AirEvac system.

Rear Exhaust Ventilation

The warm air that originally built up in the goggle has been forced out via the AirEvac ventilation system, has traveled through the AirEvac 2 EPS vent channels, and is now being exhausted at the furthest distance possible from the goggle. Ultimate integration between goggle and helmet from start to finish.

Maximize Ventilation

The well ventilated, Koroyd® panels ensure consistent, engineered airflow whether riding or stationary. In addition, the Smith helmets features internal air channels that combine with open intake and exhaust ports to maximize ventilation.
