How easy is it to order prescription eyewear?

Ordering prescription eyewear from Smith Optics is straightforward. Just choose your frame or RX insert, enter the prescription from your eye doctor, and select any customizations. The whole process takes less than two minutes.

What’s the difference between photochromic and prescription lenses?

Prescription lenses correct your vision; photochromic lenses adjust to changing light. You can combine both to get vision correction plus adaptive tinting that shifts from bright sun to lower-light environments.

With Smith Optics, this combination is available specifically in RX setups for shield styles when paired with the ODS5 adapter or goggles using the GRX adapter. Outside of those configurations, prescription sunglasses are available with polarized lenses rather than photochromic.

Can I use prescription eyewear for sports and outdoor activities?

Yes, performance-focused prescription eyewear is designed for movement, stability, and protection, making it ideal for activities like snowboarding, fishing, mountain biking, gravel riding, running, and hiking.

How do I measure my pupillary distance (PD)?

PD is the distance in millimeters between the centers of your pupils, and it’s used to properly align your lenses. You can measure it at home with a ruler and a mirror, an app, or have it taken by an optician for the best accuracy.

It’s often not included in your prescription because many eye exams focus only on vision correction, and PD is considered a separate fitting measurement for ordering glasses.

Are prescription adapters or prescription goggles better?

Prescription adapters are usually better for versatility and lower cost since you can switch them between frames, while prescription goggles tend to offer a more seamless fit and a wider field of view for high-motion sports.

Smith Optics offers the GRX goggle prescription adapter system, which works with all Smith Optics goggles—including youth and 3D Imprint styles—making it easy to use your prescription with the goggles you already ride in.

A Heritage of Innovation — Since 1965, SMITH has been part of the ride — pushing boundaries, chasing lines, and sharing the experience with riders around the globe.
