An Outer Banks Field Guide
Share
You can learn a lot about a place by checking out the local food — and, most importantly for our crew, the coffee spots.
While filming our latest Pursue Your Thrill short film, we spent our days on the water, driving, fishing, jamming and chasing whatever the day threw our way. But somewhere in between, we needed fuel.
Here are a few of the spots we kept going back to — because they were just that good.
Ashley’s Espresso Parlour
Every good day needs a starting point, and Ashley’s was one of ours. A local coffee spot that feels inviting from the second you walk in — with good people, great espresso and the cutest little cups to start the day.
Order: Espresso shot + cold brew
Best Time: Early ;)
Art’s Place
If you don’t want a burger and fries after a day at the beach, what are you doing?!
Our local crew took us to Art’s for a midday burger, and it did not disappoint. Good burgers, good people and the kind of laid-back spot you could easily hang around longer than planned.
Order: Literally all the burgers!
Pro Tip: Build yours exactly how you like it.
Waves Deli
On the drive down to Hatteras, hunger hit and Waves Deli came to the rescue. Part deli, part market, part local hangout — exactly the kind of place you hope to stumble across on a road trip.
Grab a sandwich, stock up for the road and keep heading south.
Order: Big Stanley
Pro Tip: Try a burrito!! The chicken burrito was insane!
Capt’n Franks
Ahoy, mates. Hot dogs at the beach? Say less.
Capt’n Franks is an Outer Banks classic serving up hot dogs, fries and all the no-frills goodness you want after a day outside. Quick, casual and very easy to understand why it’s been a local favorite for years.
Order: Chilli Cheese Dog
Best Enjoyed: Hungry, sandy and straight off the beach.
