Smith Bike Helmet Technology
Protection
Anatomy of a Helmet
A lot of technology goes into our helmets to help keep you safe out there. Swipe through to learn more about the layers of a helmet, what these safety features are, and what they do.
EPS
EPS stands for expanded polystyrene foam, which protects your head by slowing it down and helping to dissipate impact forces.
KOROYD®
This honeycomb-like layer is a true energy absorber that converts kinetic energy by crushing, which results in better energy absorption in the event of an impact.
Mips®
Mips® stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System. The core of this layer is a low friction layer that allows the head to move 10-15 mm relative to the helmet in all directions, reducing rotational motion to the brain.
-
COMPLETE PROTECTION
The most robust option that utilizes Koroyd throughout the entirety of the helmet shell.
-
ZONAL PROTECTION
Helmets that feature targeted, strategic placement of Koroyd to offer impact absorption where you may need it most.
-
E-BIKE CERTIFIED PROTECTION
NTA-8776 or E-Bike helmet certification is a Dutch-created safety agreement that protects against higher impact speeds and covers a larger part of the head.
-
TRADITIONAL PROTECTION
Lightweight EPS protection. Like all our helmets, these models are CPSC, and CE EN 1078 certified as well as protected by our crash replacement warranty.
Fitting Your Helmet
Ultimate Integration
Smith helmets and sunglasses work together to bring you the ultimate integration for a seamless fit.
-
GOGGLE INTEGRATION
Thanks to a channel across the back of the helmet that aligns with the proper position of the goggle strap, Smith MTB goggles stay put while riding.
A three-position visor featured on most Smith MTB helmets rotates up to allow for goggle storage.
-
SUNGLASSES INTEGRATION
Smith performance eyewear is easily stored on the front or back of the helmet.
Eyewear temples slide into channels on sides of the helmet, holding your eyewear in place for those grueling climbs.
MAXIMUM AIRFLOW
Goggles and glasses fog when standard helmets trap warm moist air around your eye area. Smith's AirEvac ventilation systems generate maximum airflow and pull that warm, fog-causing air, away from your face, through the AirEvac channels.
REAR EXHAUST VENTILATION
Our AirEvac ventilation system not only moves that warm air away from your face, but it also exhausts it at the furthest distance possible from your eyewear at the back of your helmet. Ultimate integration between eyewear and helmet from start to finish.
