The Blondes

Pro Skiers - Emily Childs, Tonje Kvivik, and Janelle Yip

British Colombia, Canada

What do you get when you combine three best friends who all share a deep passion for fearless freestyle skiing? The Blondes. All from different backgrounds but currently residing in Canada, Emily Childs, Tonje Kvivik, and Janelle Yip burst onto the freestyle scene in 2017 and since then have continued to establish their presence in the arena. Known for their fun personalities, bold and confident riding, and unapologetically raw demeanors, their recent appearance in Matchstick Productions, “The Stomping Grounds” has officially sealed the trios status as a force to be reckoned with.

Ask The Blondes

If you could spend a day with any other SMITH athlete, who would it be and why?

Emily: There’s too many I want to hangout with! “Redbeard” looks like we would have such a fun time, and I'd bet we’d catch a few fish too. Or Bear Holeman. I don’t know much about him, but he seems like a total legend and pretty sure he knows where the fish are.

What is your biggest fear or achilles heel?

Janelle: Generally, I like to take calculated risks but I'm not all that reckless. I love flipping off of cliffs because I'm in control but I'm pretty scared of something like cliff jumping because there are so many uncontrollable factors.

If you weren't an incredible athlete, what would you be?

Tonje: I'd either be really obsessed with mountain biking or a nerd.

What is your favorite SMITH product and why?

Tonje: The Squad MAG's!! The new lens technology is amazing. If clouds roll in on top of your line, you can change the lenses without even taking the goggles off your head.

Janelle: I love the Squad MAGS and the 4D MAGs. The interchangeable lenses on both of those goggles work so well to quick release and change from a storm lens to sun. Also, the 4D MAGs are amazing on the resort because they give you extra peripheral vision to see everyone skiing nearby you.

Emily: Squad MAG, obviously (best goggle ever). I always loved the squad, so adding the easy lens change made them perfect. I also love the Lowdown 2 sunglasses. They're so light and have so many lens options! My favorite is the Chromapop polarized gray green for lowlight days.
