Do's and Don'ts | How to Keep Your Goggles From Fogging
Share
Foggy goggles can ruin your day on the mountain. In fact, foggy goggles can be such a discouraging problem that they actually inspired our founder, Dr. Bob Smith to invent a better goggle. Smith goggles are designed in many different ways to help prevent fogging, but make sure you also follow these simple guidelines to ensure a comfortable fog-free day on the slopes. It’s what Dr. Bob would want.
✅ Do: Make sure your Goggles Form A Tight Seal on Your Face
Take the time to try on different models to find the most comfortable pair that forms a complete seal against your face. If you’re having trouble finding the right goggles for you, we offer additional fit options like low bridge fit, different goggle sizes from small to XL, and custom-made goggles like Imprint 3D.
❌ Don’t: Wear Your Goggles On Your Forehead
Your face and head are often the only parts of you that aren't bundled up as you head to the mountain, which means they're the main place on your body where heat is escaping. Placing your goggles on your forehead traps heat and moisture inside the goggles, causing your goggles to fog. Instead, wear your goggles on top of your helmet, or carry them as you make your way from the parking lot to the lifts.
✅ Do: Try on Goggles How You’ll Wear Them on the Slopes
Wear your helmet and/or hat when you try on new goggles. You’ll want to make sure your goggles fit properly with the gear you usually wear. SMITH helmets and goggles are designed to work together to vent warm, moist air out of the back of your helmet and help your goggles stay fog-free.
❌ Don’t: Wipe Out the Inside of Your Goggles When They Are Wet or Foggy
Smearing the snow and ice from your last wipe-out around the inside of your lens can actually make fogging worse, and it can also wipe away the anti-fog coatings from the inside of your lens. If your goggles become filled with snow, knock out the excess snow, and use our snow eraser or a microfiber cloth to dab away moisture.
✅ Do: Store Your Goggles Properly
Make sure to store your goggles in a dry, warm, well-ventilated place and allow them to dry thoroughly after each use. Ensuring your goggles completely dry out after your day on the mountain will greatly help to prevent fogging the next day.
❓Do Smith Goggles Need an Anti-Fog Spray?
Smith goggles come with an anti-fog treatment for advanced fog-free performance so you don’t need to worry about buying a separate product to coat the inside of your lens.
