How do I measure my head for a Smith Optics bike helmet?

To measure your head for a cycling helmet, wrap a flexible tape measure (or a piece of string, then measured with a ruler) around the largest part of your head, about an inch above your eyebrows, to get your circumference in centimeters. Match that number to Smith Optics’ size chart, from Adult XS (48-52 CM) up to Adult XL (61-65 CM). 

If you fall between two sizes, we recommend visiting a local retailer to try both on. Once your helmet arrives, use the rear dial to fine-tune the fit and adjust the chin strap so you can fit two fingers between it and your chin.

How do I choose the right ski or snowboarding helmet?

Choosing a snowboarding or skiing helmet starts with the right size. Measure your head circumference about an inch above your eyebrows, then match that number to Smith's size chart.

From there, pick a style based on how you ride. All-mountain helmets have adjustable venting for mixed terrain, freestyle helmets are lighter with fixed venting, and alpine racing helmets are built for speed and FIS-approved protection.

Look for safety tech like Mips® and KOROYD® for impact protection, and make sure the helmet fits well with your goggles for a gapless seal.

How long does a helmet last before I need to replace it?

Always replace your helmet after a crash, even if it looks fine, since absorbing an impact can weaken the materials. 

Without a crash, it’s recommended to replace ski and snowboard helmets every 5 years of active use or 10 years from the manufacturer's date, whichever comes first, and replace bike helmets every 5 years. You can check your helmet's age by looking for the "MFG: MONTH/YEAR" sticker inside the helmet.
