Pursue Your Thrill, Wherever It Lands
If you’re anything like the rest of the world, you’ve probably been obsessing over the recent Artemis II mission. Grinning at the heartwarming request to name a crater on the Moon “Carroll” after Commander Reid Wiseman’s late wife, beaming over the historic crew that included the first person of color and woman to go to the Moon, oh, and hyper-fixating on the fact that it’s the furthest that anyone has ever gone into space. All mindblowing to be sure.
But one thing that we’re particularly obsessed with about the first mission to the Moon in 50+ years was the return. Yes, the return. Why, you might ask? Well, if you caught a glimpse at the photos of their splashdown off the coast of San Diego, you might have noticed the four astronauts sporting what appear to be ski goggles. And upon closer inspection, it turns out they’re none other than our Cascade Classic Goggles.

Yes, it’s true. Included in the re-entry kit were SMITH snow goggles selected by NASA for use during recovery operations. Designed and made in the USA, they delivered critical protection against light, wind, and ocean spray during splashdown.
We’re honored to play a small part in such a historic moment, and we’re proud to create gear worthy of a spot in NASA’s post-landing kit. If you want to learn more about our history of innovation and commitment to quality, take a look inside our Utah-based factory, MFG.
