Reflections ::: A couple weeks ago I got to speak in front of a large group of people alongside robbiemaddison and steepskiing. (I was freaking out on the inside. (Not as much about the speaking but more about the people I was up there with!) The panel was about breaking through barriers and how each of us got to where we had ‘made it’ and then furthermore how once we had ‘made it’ what did we use to keep us pushing through the barriers of complacency, or keeping our level high. . . I was called on first and my answers were: visualization and meditation. I spoke a bit to each of those. The surprising (or not surprising) part is when I turned and handed the mic to Robbie, he said, “100 percent agree. Meditation has been the most crucial thing to my sport and personal life.” He continued on to explain his process of setting high goals and following your joy and using its fuel in all parts of your life- and both he and Chris were so well-spoken... I was dazed and impressed by their stories and articulations. It’s no secret meditation works, I don’t know why I’m still surprised when I learn about who actually has a practice. . . I could go on for days about it... maybe I’ll do an IGTV if you are curious about it.... I’m no expert though. I’ve been meditating mostly every day for the past 7 or so years and I have bouts where I put it on the back burner (though i always notice it in not a good way) and I’m always finding new things that work better or tools I like to rotate through. . . I practice because it helps me respond (not react) to life and my environments and relationships in the way I choose, it makes me have a better relationship with myself, and like Dan Harris from tenpercenthappier put it, it just makes me happier. The convo with him was great- we chatted about rough and intimate conversations, scary life jumps and what’s next on the horizon for me... Though I feel weird in podcasts because I end up only talking about myself because that’s why I’m there but then I wish I asked more questions of him... maybe I’ll start my own podcast so I can start grilling people haha.
